Introduction
This project involved the complete transformation of an existing family home in Oxford through a full internal refurbishment and rear extension. The client’s objective was to modernise every aspect of the property while creating a larger, open-plan living environment suitable for modern family life.
Following detailed discussions with the client and design team, DKM Builders Oxford Ltd was appointed as Principal Contractor, taking responsibility for the coordination and delivery of the entire construction process from start to completion.
The works included structural alterations, a rear extension, complete internal refurbishment, new kitchen installation, luxury bathrooms, bespoke joinery, upgraded electrical and plumbing systems, decorating and final finishing throughout.
Demolition & Structural Works
The project commenced with a complete strip-out of the existing property to prepare for the structural alterations and extension works.
Load-bearing walls were removed and structural steelwork installed to create a spacious open-plan layout between the existing house and the new extension. All structural works were completed in accordance with the structural engineer’s design and inspected by Building Control throughout construction.
Rear Extension
A new rear extension was constructed to increase the property's ground floor living space and improve the overall functionality of the home.
The extension seamlessly connects with the original building, providing a bright kitchen, dining and family area with improved natural light and direct access to the garden.
Careful attention was given to matching materials and detailing to create a cohesive finish throughout the property.
Internal Refurbishment
Alongside the extension, the entire property underwent a complete internal refurbishment.
The works included new plastering, flooring, internal oak joinery, bespoke storage, decorating, electrical rewiring, plumbing upgrades and modern heating installations.
A contemporary kitchen with integrated appliances and stone worktops was installed, creating a practical yet luxurious family space.
The bathrooms were finished with large-format porcelain tiles, frameless glass shower enclosures, premium sanitaryware and illuminated mirrors to achieve a clean, modern appearance.
Throughout the home, every finish was carefully coordinated to create consistency in design while maintaining the highest standard of workmanship.

As Principal Contractor, DKM Builders Oxford Ltd managed every stage of the project, coordinating all trades, suppliers, Building Control inspections and programme management.

Compliance & Certification
All construction works were completed in accordance with current Building Regulations.
Electrical, plumbing and heating installations were carried out by qualified contractors, with all relevant certification provided upon completion. Building Control inspections were coordinated throughout each stage of the build to ensure full compliance.
